BetterBet is a wellness gaming website that demonstrates the realities of gambling with transparent and accurate information. Unlike gambling blocker apps or therapy apps for gambling addiction, our project helps anyone interested in gambling build a healthy relationship with it using a more interactive approach. The goal of this project is not to treat addiction but rather to provide an educational alternative to the current online casinos.

We conducted a study with more than 130 participants to see the correlation between these predatory features used by online casinos and gambling behavior. We found that visual and sound effects have a significant impact on the betting amount and time difference between bets. Particularly, participants who experienced visual effects spent more than those without visual effects. Participants with both visual and sound effects have the highest betting amount and the largest range of betting amounts. On the other hand, participants who experienced sound effects spent significantly less time placing a bet than those with no sound effects.

Thus, from an initial idea of addressing the multifaceted nature of gambling addiction, our focus shifted towards education, targeting individuals less familiar with gambling, especially those unaware of the manipulative tactics employed by online casinos. Our platform evolved into an educational tool, elucidating the predatory practices identified, such as visual and sound effects, and explaining the concept of provable fairness. We aim to empower users with knowledge, enabling them to make informed decisions and, ideally, choose to abstain from gambling or engage in it more responsibly.
